A total of 80 journalists were killed last year. At time of writing 348 are in prison and 60 are being held hostage, according to Reporters Without Borders, the organisation which campaigns to defend freedom of information and journalists worldwide. More than 50 journalists and bloggers are currently detained in China for example.
Their annual report on the deadly violence and abusive treatment meted out to journalists, which they released just before Christmas, shows an unprecedented level of hostility towards media personnel.
Rebecca Vincent, Director of the UK Bureau will be talking about what is happening to journalists on the frontline of reporting and the difference she believes the verbal attacks by President Trump have made to media safety. Rebecca is a human rights activist, writer, and former US diplomat.
