Jazz at George IV
The Chiswick Calendar Jazz Nights

We have a jazz club in the Boston Room of George IV on the last Thursday of every month (except July, August and December). The Chiswick Calendar is working with Larry Pryce, a jazz promoter for more than 40 years, who also organizes the music for the iconic jazz venue at the Bull’s Head in Barnes. He knows all the best jazz musicians in London and now that we’re on the map as a jazz venue, they’re coming to play here in Chiswick.
Blues, Soul, R&B, Latin and Classic Jazz
The Chiswick Calendar Jazz Nights started in November 2016. We’ve had Blues from the Thames Delta ‘tinged with skiffle’ from Richie Milton; Jazz ‘laced with flavours of the blues and gospel as well as a hint of her own Caribbean background’ from Shireen Francis; Latin, Blues & Gallic chanson from Oriana Curls; Soul and Classic Jazz songs from singer Zena James, Blues & Rhythm and Blues from the Blues Engineers, aka blues guitarist John O’Reilly and multi-talented saxophonist, flautist and harmonica player Nick Payne, and Chiswick’s own home-grown band with its seven strong ‘wall of saxes’, the Jazz Mondays.
If you don’t know them, you will definitely know the names of some of the great musicians they’ve played with. The Blues Engineers have played with and supported some of the very best jazz & blues artists in the business including BB King, Van Morrison, Al Green, Bill Wyman and Eric Clapton. Oriana Curls has also worked with some of the best musicians, writers and producers around: Andy Bradfield (Imelda May, Rufus Wainwright), Marcella Puppini and Alex Golding, (Lulu, Keziah Jones) to name a few. Shireen Francis is described as “one of the best British jazz vocalists of this generation ……” BBC Radio.

Larry Pryce of Live Music To Go – Jazz impressario extraordinaire
Steeped in Jazz, Blues, Latin and Soul music from an early age, Larry started out as a performer with his own Blues band in Copenhagen. He ran the famous Dover St Restaurant Jazz Bar for many years, so got to know the cream of London’s Jazz fraternity, both local and visiting musicians who played there six nights a week over a period of twenty or thirty years. Sadly that closed and is now a late night fusion restaurant with a DJ, but as one door closes another one opens and Larry turned his attention to the newly refurbished Bull’s Head in Barnes.
That too was in danger of closing after 50 years as a venue for live jazz, but it was rescued and relaunched at the beginning of 2014, with Larry in charge of the music programme seven nights a week and twice on Sundays.
Now we are pleased to say that when he’s not off at some Jazz festival in Spain or the Caribbean, writing features for Jazz magazines or broadcasting on radio Jazz programmes, he’s applying his talent for consistently booking top jazz musicians to Chiswick.
