Neil Brown

About Neil Brown

Neil is the blacksmith at the forge at the London Museum of Water and Steam on Green Dragon Lane in Brentford, TW8 OEN. It is the oldest forge in London which has remained in continuous use.

Neil’s work encompasses both the purely artistic and the functional – everything from sculptures to gates and staircases. He came to the world of the Artistic Blacksmith relatively late in his working life, having worked in various fields including model making and I.T. He knew from his love of cars that he really enjoyed working with metal, changing its shape and creating something new.

Having trained with a master blacksmith he then launched himself as a blacksmith and started Hot Metal Works. He welcomes visitors to the forge, tucked away in the arches on one side of the courtyard of the museum and he also teaches blacksmithing courses.
