Addison Oratorio and Chamber Choirs

From Madrigals to Modern

When:
7.30pm Saturday 13 July

Where:
St Peter’s Church, Southfield Rd, W4 1BB

What:
The Addison Summer Concert sees the Oratorio and Chamber Choirs combine to perform a wide range of music, much of it inspired by words or music from different folk cultures or celebrating the joy of singing. A highlight of the evening is sure to be the world premiere of the second piece the Addison Singers have commissioned in memory of a much missed past member – Cathy Bereznicki. Even more special is the fact that this new piece has been written by their own Zillah Myers, a member of both the Oratorio and Chamber Choirs. Zillah has chosen to set an uplifting text by Joseph Addison, that concludes with the lines – ‘In Reason’s ear they all rejoice/And utter forth in glorious voice/For ever singing as they shine, Thy Hand that made us divine’. The Chamber Choir focus on popular Madrigals, dark and at times decidedly grizzly settings of folk-ballads by the great Hungarian composer Gyorgy Ligeti and an arrangement of one of the most famous arias in all Opera – ‘Dido’s Lament’ from ‘Dido & Aeneas’, arranged by Gavin Bryars.
